Samples & Tutorials

Six built-in sample datasets curated for learning. Each ships with a step-by-step tutorial covering a specific MongoDB feature — aggregation, geospatial, text search, change streams, GridFS, DataMask, time series.

What it is

A workspace tab listing built-in sample datasets. Each sample has a name, description, the collections it creates, and a tutorial walking you through queries against it. Loading a sample drops the documents into a temp database on your active connection so you can experiment without polluting production.

When to use

First-time NoSqlStudio user — load a sample, follow the tutorial, get familiar with aggregation builder / Visual Explain / Schema Sampler against known data. Power user — use samples as reproducible test data for plugin development or for showcasing the app to a teammate.

How to open

  1. In the NoSqlStudio desktop app, open the Tools menu → Samples / Tutorials, or press Ctrl+Alt+Shift+S.
  2. The workspace lists each sample card with title, description, and a Load button.
  3. Pick an active connection (the sample loads into a `samples` database on that cluster).

Loading and using a sample

  1. Click Load on the sample card. The engine inserts the documents into the `samples` database on your active connection (idempotent — re-loading replaces the same collections).
  2. Click Open Tutorial. The walkthrough opens in a panel beside the sample, with copy-pasteable queries and explanations.
  3. Follow the steps. Each query runs against the live sample so you see real results.
  4. When done, click Unload to drop the sample collections from your cluster. The tutorial state persists so you can resume later.

Limitations (v1)

  • Samples are stored locally in the app bundle, not synced from a marketplace. New samples ship with new app versions.
  • Loading writes to your active connection — pick a sandbox cluster, not production. The engine asks for confirmation when targeting a database named `production` / `prod` / `live`.
  • Tutorial state persists in localStorage. Clearing app data resets your progress.
